Pets are dangerous.
Whoa, calm down! We don't mean to say that your Pit Bull is a born killer. Rather, pets (of any breed) are dangerous simply because they're unpredictable. They're accidents waiting to happen.
It may not seem that way while your dog is rolling around in hopes of a belly rub or when your cat is playfully batting around a feather. But there are plenty of other questionable incidents that can happen.
For instance, what would happen if your hyperactive young nephew was visiting and he accidentally stepped on your sleeping dog's tail while running across the house? Your dog would probably instinctively leap up and bite him. Or maybe your cat is interested in the tuna casserole you're baking and she jumps onto the kitchen table (sans ninja skills) and knocks a guest's laptop to the floor.
No matter how sweet and adorable your pet may be, accidents can happen. Expensive accidents. Under similar circumstances, you may be held liable for guest's medical expenses and property damage if your pet inflicted the damage.
So how can you protect your finances from Fido's mischievous behavior? Renters insurance is a great place to start. It's known for its affordability and can pick up the tab when your pet gets a little too unpredictable.
Not to mention, holding a renters insurance policy that covers your pet looks great in the eyes of landlords, which may give you the competitive edge in a tight rental market. When you take responsibility for your own liability risks, you become a more appealing tenant.
